For a moment he thinks somehow he's done something wrong. Aerith's energy changes, a tension in it he can't place. Except she's still rocking against him, and he's rising to meet her, clutching her too him as tight as he can without limiting her movement, and some part of his mind is screaming to stop because he doesn't want this to end and for her to go away.
Except she won't. They live together. They're doing this. They're--
She goes rigid against him, and its barely a second before he does too, hands digging into her as white hot release makes his whole body feel like an exploding star. He wants to pull her down into the blankets with him, wrap around her and never let her go, but before he can move to do that, she's caught his face in both hands, staring at him so seriously.
I love you.
He stares at her for half a second, and then he launches at her, kissing her so hard their teeth bump lightly. The force of his enthusiasm knocks her onto her back, and he fumbles to free her legs from being pinned. He's grinning something stupid when he pulls away though, and there's no denying the wetness bright on his cheeks. He'd known, in his heart, that she loved him, but he hadn't expected to hear her say it. Never would have pushed it.
It won't be easy. He knows that. Knows he's going to live with the fear of losing her, or leaving her, every day in this forsaken place. But it doesn't matter. He's fought impossible odds for less important gains, and gods she's worth it.
He nuzzles his hose against hers, the weight of his body blanketing her like he can shield them both from the fates. "I love you, too, Aerith."
